What is a registered office address?
A UK company’s official registered address
Short answer
A registered office address is the official address on the public register where a UK company’s official mail is sent. It must be a physical address in the UK country where the company is registered (for example England and Wales).
Explained
It must be an appropriate address: post sent there must come to the attention of someone acting for the company, and the sender must be able to get proof of delivery. Since 4 March 2024 a Royal Mail PO Box can no longer be used, and failing to keep an appropriate address is an offence by the company and every officer in default.
A service provider’s address can be used if it meets all the same rules; otherwise the company could be struck off the register. HMRC letters are also sent there. The company must also give Companies House a registered email address and read the emails it receives; that email address is not published.
